What is Motown music?

Motown music beholds some of the greatest songs and artists of the 20th century. With that being said, and with the first Motown video being an enormous channel success, I've decided to revisit the music of Motown by making a second installment.

Did Eddie Kendricks ever make a Motown song?

Assertive, powerful, and groovy, this 1966 smash is beautifully delivered by the great Eddie Kendricks. The classic Motown sound was starting to fully flow by the end of 1963, when “Can I Get A Witness” was released. But you can still hear a strong current of R&B and an undertow of gospel in this thrilling floor-filler and all-time mod mover.

When did Motown start a record label?

In 1959, an aspiring songwriter and record producer named Berry Gordy Jr. borrowed $800 to start his own record label in Detroit. Good investment. Within a year, Motown had its first million-selling record, with the Miracles’ “Shop Around.”
